CRBA Update August 26, 2021

love loud

Dear LoveLOUD Churches,

Thank you for partnering together to bless our Burke County educators this year. We have two remaining schools to have food delivered; but when all are completed, you (as partnering churches) will have provided and delivered over 1,600 meals in the name of Christ Jesus.  You are each a blessing and are making a difference in our community. We truly appreciate your partnership.

CRBA Fall Meeting Short Flyer 2021

Please contact the CRBA office (828-437-0137 or admin@crbanc.org) to let us know who your church messengers are for this year’s CRBA Fall Meeting which will begin at 4:30 p.m. on October 17th at Burkemont. We will need the names of those attending the business meeting so we will know how much food to prepare. The cost of the meal is $10 per person.

At 6 p.m., following the business session and meal, we will have a wonderful Worship Celebration where everyone is invited to attend. Reservations are not necessary for this portion.

Choir Rehearsal will begin at 4:30 p.m.

There will be special activities for children, youth, and adults. We look forward to seeing you there!

Coats for the City Dates

We are excited to announce we will be partnering with our State Convention this year collecting coats for those in need in New York City. As you know, scripture tells us to be witnesses in our communities, state, nation, and world. Therefore, part of our Acts 1:8 strategy this year will focus on New York, and we need your help. If you have new or “gently used” coats (heavy or light) that you wish to “send on mission” please bring them by our CRBA office or bring them to our CRBA Fall Meeting and Celebration on October 17th and drop them off at a designated location in the parking lot of Burkemont Baptist from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. prior to our Worship Celebration which will begin at 6 p.m. This is a great way to be involved in missions!

4th Annual Golf Tournament 2021

This is always a great time of recreation and fellowship. If you have not yet registered a team, please call Earl Cross today. Also, I encourage each of our CRBA churches to “Sponsor A Hole” at $100 per hole. Several local business owners are participating, and it is our hope our churches will do the same. Make hole sponsorship checks out to CRBA and put “Golf Tournament Hole Sponsorship” on the memo line. Proceeds from hole sponsorships goes to the purchase of toys for Burke County children in need.

Fill_the_Tank_ppt_slide5 2

I am very excited about the statewide Fill the Tank baptism emphasis and celebration scheduled for Sunday, September 12! It would thrill my heart to have all the baptistry pools of the Catawba River Baptist Association filled with water AND people who are publicly professing their faith in Jesus Christ. I also pray this emphasis will be a spark that ignites a revival and awakening across our state and nation. Here are a few ideas from Scott Setzer you will want to consider as your church prepares to Fill the Tank.

Pray and Trust God for a Harvest. Most of us plan baptism services after we know we have people to baptize. Participating in Fill the Tank can cause a bit of anxiety because churches are being asked to set aside a day for baptisms even if they currently do not have any folks ready to be baptized. Well, we can fret about this, or we can pray and trust God to provide a harvest. I vote we pray and trust God! Many churches will be holding Vacation Bible School and sending children and teens to summer camp. Pray for God to bring a harvest from these events. I’m sure there are other activities in which your church will be engaged in the coming months that will provide opportunities to yield a harvest.

Prepare to Share. Gearing up for Fill the Tank gives us the opportunity for evangelism training. There are all kinds of ways to share the gospel. One of the most effective ways is telling your story of how Jesus saved you. Gospel sharing tools can be found at fillthetanknc.org. One of the best ways to prepare to share is to practice when you are with fellow believers. Carve out time during Sunday School and small group gatherings to share your story with others. The midweek prayer gathering is also a good setting for evangelism training. If your church would like to know more, I’m happy to help!

Take it Outside! Hold your baptism service outdoors. Head to a park, town common, the river, or your church lawn. Use a large inflatable pool, a tarp in the bed of a pickup truck, or a galvanized stock tank.

Join other CRBA Churches in your Community. Wouldn’t it be awesome if several churches that had 1-2 candidates got together to celebrate with each other? This is a perfect time to hold the service in a space outside of the church walls as well.

Make it a Party! After all, we are celebrating new life in Christ! People like parties, so provide invitations for baptism candidates to send to family members and friends. Be sure to share the gospel with those who attend and invite them to respond to God’s free gift of grace through Jesus Christ. Oh, and serve refreshments! It’s not a party without cake!

Involve Others. Two highlights of my life were baptizing both of my children. Offer parents the privilege of baptizing their children. Ask folks who God used to lead another person to faith in Christ if they would like to baptize that person as well.

Practice Planned Spontaneity. I know this sounds like an oxymoron but hear me out. Add a different element to your service by inviting people in attendance to be baptized along with those who are already scheduled for baptism. After sharing the gospel, you can ask something along the lines of what the Ethiopian eunuch asked Philip in Acts 8:36, “Look, here’s water. What is keeping you from being baptized?” Of course, you will need to make sure you have appropriate garments for those who are baptized.

Determine to Disciple. This emphasis provides a prime opportunity to develop a discipleship pathway for your church. Spend time training disciplers who will walk with new believers and help them grow in the faith. We must not forget that teaching people to observe all that Christ commanded is a crucial part of fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:20).

Mission Trip to Kenya

Kenya with qr

We continue to be excited for our upcoming mission trip to Kenya from October 26 thru November 5th.   We have a team of 12 people representing 6 churches.

If you are unable to travel to Kenya but wish to participate,
consider helping us with one of four projects:

  • We will be building four houses/house churches costing a total of $1,600. You can donate enough for the house ($400) or you can buy a wall ($100). These houses are for widows in villages that will also be used as houses of hope/church plants).
  • Pastor’s Conference –We will be hosting (and leading) pastor training in Kisumu, Kenya which will cost up to $2,000 for supplies and food for the Kenyan pastors who will be trained.
  • Buy a suit for one of 21 pastors @ $40 each
  • Buy a bicycle for a pastor @ $100 each

The above are great projects for Sunday School Classes, families, and churches to participate in. Also, if your church does not have plans for your church’s VBS offering, consider using it to meet some of the above mission needs.
