CRBA Update September 28, 2017
Community Ministry at Hillcrest Housing Community
Our Ministry to the Hillcrest Community will begin Wednesday, October 4th at 6 p.m. with a Block Party. In preparation for this important ministry we are asking for your help. We are in need of the following supplies. Please bring all donations to our CRBA office in Morganton.
Packs of notebook paper
Individually wrapped snacks and chips
Ping Pong Balls
Board Games (i.e. Connect 4, Kerplunk, etc.)
Corn Hole Set
Also, we are in need of one additional church who will volunteer to lead this ministry the second Wednesday of every month. If interested please call Robby at 828-437-0137. Our current partners are: Zion Baptist, Walker Road Baptist, Summit and New Day and we are praying for one more.
We are happy to announce beginning January 18th, 2018 we will be offering SACS Accredited seminary level classes at our Resource Center in partnership with Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. This partnership will allow both pastors and laymen (men and women) the opportunity to further their education while taking accredited seminary courses. We will be offering two courses (you can take one or both) which will take place on Thursday evenings beginning January 18th.
Courses being taught are the following:
Pastoral Ministry and Leadership Practicum (instructor Dr. Steve Mathews)
Bible Exposition I: Hermeneutics and Preparation Practicum (instructor Dr. Rex Shaver)
For more information on this new ministry of CRBA please give us a call at 828-437-0137.
Also, at this year’s Annual Worship Celebration a special offering will be taken which will go towards paying off at least half of the CRBA building mortgage which is currently at $260,000. Not only are we asking individuals to contribute but we are asking our churches to make a sacrificial gift as well. Paying off this debt will free up over $22,000 yearly for the next 16 years which will allow us to help our churches with many more evangelistic/mission projects. Please pray for what God would have you to do regarding this important offering.
Our next Minister’s Wives Fellowship will be Thursday, October 5th at 5:30 at Abele’s in Morganton. Our special guest for the evening will be Shane Rose (wife of pastor Keith Rose from Zion) who will share how God has been moving in her life. Please join us for this very special occasion.
We are excited for our upcoming Toy Store ministry as we know our community will be blessed and many will come to faith in Christ. As always, we are in need of several items and if you can help please bring all donations to our CRBA office. Also, we need volunteers to help with registration the week of October 9th. If you can help us please call our CRBA office as soon as possible. The following items are needed at this time:
Batteries (AAA, AA, C, D)
Steps to Peace with God (Tracts)
Here are 10 suggestions (from Lifeway) to get the creative juices flowing.
1. Write Lots of Letters
On Sunday before Pastor Appreciation Day; distribute stamped envelopes addressed to the pastor. An instruction note invites each church member to write and mail a personal note of encouragement and appreciation to the pastor during the week.
2. Customize a T-shirt
Order a “Best Pastor in _______” T-shirt, cap or plaque, and present it with flourish.
3. Create Original Art
Laminate bookmarks created by the children in your church, featuring their art and signatures. Allow kids to present the bookmarks to the pastor personally.
4. Place Your Church in a Frame
Prepare a beautifully framed photo or painting of the church building. Even better: take a group photo of church members in front of the building. Use extra wide matting and ask every church member to sign the mat before adding glass.
5. Purchase Helpful Commentaries
Purchase a full set of Bible commentaries.
Allow various groups, such as Bible classes, committees or church organizations, to present one book of the set, individually wrapped with their personal notes of appreciation on the inside pages. (Some churches might consider gifting their pastor Logos software)
6. Make a Video Presentation
Create a presentation of photos and video of the pastor(s) in action during the past year. Set it to music and play it as a pre-service video.
7. Give Public Thanks
Take out a full-page ad in your local newspaper, featuring a photo of your pastor and a declaration of your church’s love and appreciation. Even better: Add every member’s signature on the ad.
8. Do an Office Makeover
Do a surprise office makeover, with the pastor’s wife’s input, of course. Consider fresh paint, updated décor, new furniture and even a computer or technology upgrade.
9. Supply Favorite Things
Think of one small thing your pastor enjoys, such as M&Ms, fishing lures, coffee, etc. Ask each member to bring that item on Sunday, i.e. one bag, any size, of M&Ms. Supply extras for guests or forgetful members.
10. Celebrate 30 Days of Pastor Appreciation
Use an October calendar to schedule volunteers for a month-long schedule of surprise treats.
Each day of the month, the pastor will receive a surprise token of appreciation from a church member, committee or group within the church. The tributes can vary widely. Some ideas include: a balloon delivery, a shoe shine, an apple pie or a gift certificate. After a whole month of pleasant surprises, won’t your pastor feel appreciated?
And won’t God be honored by your acts of love for His servant? Don’t forget to include a sincere note with specific reasons you appreciate the minister’s spiritual leadership, dedication, time and commitment.
Honor God by honoring His servants, with a thoughtful, personalized encouragement that fits your unique church and pastor.
Are you ready to LoveLOUD October 9-14?
LoveLOUD is a week of missional service opportunities designed to engage CRBA churches in sharing Christ’s love in Burke County in a variety of practical ways. Churches can be involved in one of three kinds of projects:
1. Construction Projects
2. Community Service
3. Evangelistic Outreach
For more information on how you and your church can be involved give us a call at 828-437-0137.
Our Annual WMU Missions Celebration is October 24th at 6:15 p.m. at High Peak Baptist Church in Valdese. A wonderful meal will be served and we are encouraging each person attending to contribute $5 for the cost of the meal. Also, we are encouraging you to bring a new or “gently” used purse (to be filled with supplies at a later date) to be donated to Options which is our local Women’s Shelter. This will be a great time of fellowship, missions and inspiration as our Director of Missions Robby Smith will be giving the missions challenge for the evening.

A revival does two things. First, it returns the Church from her backsliding and second, it causes the conversion of men and women; and it always includes the conviction of sin on the part of the Church. What a spell the devil seems to cast over the Church today! –Billy Sunday
