This weeks update contains information about Toy Store, Love Loud, Friends of the CRBA, and much more.

We are excited about this year’s Toy Store ministry as we will be celebrating 25 years of ministering to families using toys at Christmas to share the Good News of Jesus. This year we are celebrating Christmas in August, encouraging churches to collect toys in August to be distributed to families during Toy Store in December. If you would like a collection box to be delivered to your church (or business) please give us a call at 828-437-0137. Collection boxes with the Toy Store Logo are also available for pickup at our CRBA office in Morganton.

Friends of the CRBA (4)

We are happy to announce Lin Dawson (ordained minister and former NFL player) will be our guest speaker for this year’s Friends of CRBA Banquet on Tuesday, August 27th at 6 p.m. at Mount Home Baptist Church. This will be a night of great food, inspiration and an opportunity to raise funds for CRBA ministries. Tickets will be free and an opportunity to give financially to the work of CRBA will be provided. To make reservations (and to pick up tickets) please call our CRBA office at 828-437-0137.

We are excited the churches of CRBA will be participating in LoveLOUD again this year. LoveLOUD will take place August 19-23 when our CRBA churches will provide lunch for all of our public schools (school employees) in Burke County. Chick-fil-A will be preparing the meal ($5.34 per person) and churches will be delivering the food to their adopted school on a specific day (and time) during the week of August 19. If your church would like to sponsor one of our Burke County Public Schools the week of August 19th please call our CRBA office with the name of the school you wish to adopt. If your church would like to adopt a school but is unable to financially make that happen please let us know as we have “some” money set aside to help our churches with this event when necessary. Let’s pull together and LoveLOUD the week of August 19th. (Please note, due to the complexity of this endeavor, participating churches will be asked to use Chick-fil-A and also stick to the date and time.) Schools yet to be adopted are:

Creative Outreach Ideas to help churches reach communities for Christ

Have an Outdoor Baptism Service in a Public Location

Zion Baptism 2

I am sure many who read this post remember being baptized in a river. While most churches now have indoor baptismal pools, some churches are choosing to return to the river for these special services as it is a time of celebration for the new believer, their family and of course the church. Also, because the service is in a public location, it will attract onlookers who will see one of the most loving practices of God’s church. Many times this special type of service will prompt onlookers to seek out the pastor or church member to ask questions and will afford the church people opportunities to share the Gospel in conversation. One of our CRBA churches (Zion) hosted one such service this past week where they baptized 15 people and one of those pastor Keith Rose led to the Lord during a conversation on the river bank prior to the service beginning. The man began to ask questions and Keith shared how he could have lasting peace and salvation and the man received Jesus right then and immediately wanted to be baptized. Praise The Lord! Remember, conveniences are nice (such as baptismal pools) but let’s not forget the value of doing things the “old way” on occasion.
