Job Description


Principal Role
The primary role of the Associate Pastor of Student Ministry will be all aspects of the Student Ministry, including the planning, conducting, evaluating, and coordinating of the youth group and the middle school group programs. This role requires the person to be a spiritually mature and biblically grounded Christian who can connect with, lead, and equip students and adults for the works of ministry as well.

The secondary role of the Associate Pastor of Student Ministry will be to collaborate with the Children’s Ministry Leader and the College Ministry leader to develop and maintain continuity from birth to college. He will maintain high-level supervision to both ministries (curriculum, budget, volunteers, facilities).
As an Associate Pastor, he will occasionally be asked to assist the pastor in all areas of ministry of the church including counseling, weddings, funerals, visitation, and pulpit supply.
The Associate Pastor will be responsible to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit of his own gifts and abilities as they benefit the church body. This person may have gifts and abilities that God has given for use in the kingdom that are not included in this job description. The Associate Pastor will be encouraged to develop these gifts as they benefit the ministry of El Bethel Baptist Church, although these other ministries should not detract from this job description.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plan, conduct, evaluate, and coordinate all aspects of the student ministry.
2. Be available to the students and their families; Consider school involvement or involvement in
the students lives outside of the church (games, concerts, etc.).
3. Collaborate with and supervise the College Ministry and the Children’s Ministry.
4. Assist the senior pastor when needed in all facets of ministry (visitation, counseling, funerals,
etc.)
5. Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the senior pastor.
6. Act as senior pastor as directed or in the absence of the senior pastor according to Personnel
Structure.
7. Attend all staff meetings and church council meetings. Attend other meetings as needed.
8. Attend relevant seminars and conferences as time and resources allow.
9. Through self-initiative, seek out opportunities for continuing education with the objective to stay on top of current trends and for the betterment of self.
10. Attend all scheduled church services and business meetings or make arrangements for your
coverage for excused absences.

Duties Specific to the role as Student Pastor

1. Develop biblically grounded, age-appropriate programming for middle and high school students (weekly gatherings, retreats, missions, etc.).
2. Create clear pathways for student spiritual formation (baptism, discipleship, leadership
development).
3. Direct, maintain, and work with a student ministry committee.
4. Work with the Children’s Ministry leader to recruit, train, and shepherd the volunteers within
the Student and Children’s Ministries.
5. Prepare the annual budget for the needs of student ministry, and present to the budget and
finance committee for review and approval.
6. Give vision and direction to and collaborate with the Children’s Ministry Leader and the College Ministry Leader in the planning and coordinating of the ministries for strong transitional
programming.
7. Evaluate all student, college, and children’s programs on an annual basis.
8. Communicate the maintenance or renovation needs of the education building/student ministry areas and equipment to the Deacons and appropriate committees to address.

Qualifications
 Espouse an unquestioned and vital commitment to Jesus as personal Savior and Lord.
 Understand and willing to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.
 Be thoroughly evangelical in faith, doctrine, and practice as understood by the Baptist Faith and Message.
 Demonstrate effectiveness in personal witness and in the implementation of an effective
ministry.
 Have a personal character and lifestyle, family life, emotional and physical state of health that is acceptable in accordance with 1 Timothy 3.
 Possess strong motivational skills, a high level of organization, and an understanding of the
diplomacy and flexibility when working in a church setting.
 Have a calling into pastoral ministry, especially to students at El Bethel Baptist Church.
 Have significant relational skills with students and parents.
 Ability to plan, organize, train, and supervise students and adults.
 Ability to provide Christian counsel to parents, students, and children on contemporary issues.
 Ability to recruit, train, and communicate to volunteers.
 Ability to use Planning Center and/or comparable software to stay relevant in a technology
driven society.

Education/Experience
– College graduate and a degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent experience
considered optimum.
– Experience in leading a variety of types of programs for students.
– Experience planning, organizing, training, and supervising students and adults.
– Education and experience commensurate with student ministry.

Position Summary
     The Pastor of Youth and Children is a godly, competent, engaging leader who will provide high-level direction and pastoral leadership for all of our youth and children (K-12), giving pastoral oversight to children and teens as well as programs, events, staff, parents and volunteers. These ministries are aimed at presenting the gospel and biblical truth clearly and consistently, as well as laying a foundation for a lifetime of following Jesus in the context of being a member of a local church. He will give special attention and direction as the leader of Student Ministry (6th through 12th grades). This role also includes general pastoral responsibilities such as preaching/teaching, shepherding, and visitation.

Responsibilities
     The Pastor of Youth and Children will shepherd all aspects of ministry related to families, whose children are in K – 12th grades. While there will be more direct hands-on teaching related to youth ministry (6th- 12th grades), this pastor will oversee, equip, and encourage ministry leaders within the Children’s Ministry (K-6th). He will implement the discipleship ministry of PRBC in the context of children’s ministry. While Student and Children ministries will remain two distinct ministries, this Pastor’s ministry will bring cohesion across these ministries.

 
  1. Oversee and manage Sunday School and midweek programs and activities for children (K–12th grade) ensuring a welcoming, safe, God-centered, Christ-exalting ministry for children and parents in a manner consistent with the theology, vision, and philosophy of ministry of PRBC.
  2. Oversee and manage the curriculum and content of the teaching employed in our ministries and programs to ensure that it accords with our Statement of Faith, is age-appropriate, and rightly exalts Christ.
  3. Supervise and direct all team leaders and other ministry staff and volunteers who work with children to ensure that there is proper vetting, orientation, and training according to our safeguarding policies. Ensure that our policies and procedures are up-to-date and develop a culture of careful safeguarding and protection of the children entrusted to our care and oversight.
  4. Plan, manager, and oversee student and children’s ministry events related to fellowship, missions, and discipleship.
  5. Oversee the recruitment, training, and support of all volunteer staff required for children programs K – 12th grade.
  6. Oversee the proper management and care of designated child ministry space and equipment.
  7. Initiate efforts with the other ministry leaders of the church to incorporate children into the broader ministry of the church.


Qualifications & Requirements
Godly Character

1. Meet the spiritual, personal, and character qualifications of an elder found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9 and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23.
2 .Model servant leadership and exhibit a helpful, joyful attitude.
3. Be a man of prayer and a man of the Word, sensitive to the Spirit, devoting himself to daily prayer and Bible reading for the sake of guarding himself from sin and stirring up his heart and mind to renewed passion for Christ; he will lead his family in regular times in the Word and prayer; and he will gladly participate in mutual care and accountability with other believers.
4. Seek to undertake his duties in the power of the Holy Spirit, undergirded with prayer, guided by the Scriptures, and manifesting the character of Christ for the glory of God.
